Responsible for managing the firm’s systematic direct investing activities.
Prior to joining Magnitude in 2013, Mr. Distler spent 15 years with the D. E. Shaw group. Most recently, he was a senior vice president and chief operating officer for the firm’s global private investing businesses, with responsibilities including business development, operations, valuation, and portfolio management.
His other responsibilities at the D. E. Shaw group included evaluating new investment strategies, establishing the first firm-wide office of the COO to review each of the firm’s business units and improve operational efficiency, establishing a joint venture brokerage and trading firm in India, and working on the firm’s discretionary macro and healthcare investing activities. Mr. Distler also served as chief operating officer of Attenuon, LLC, a cancer drug development firm founded by the D. E. Shaw group.
Before joining the D. E. Shaw group, Mr. Distler was a White House intern for the National Economic Council during the Clinton Administration and worked in the Office of the Chief Economist for the U.S. Department of Labor.
Mr. Distler received his J.D. from Yale Law School. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with an A.B. in economics.
